Roller Skating Fun
Que Xanadu and bring on Olivia Newton John... we were about to get physical in some roller skates! Ever wonder who originally thought it would be a good idea to put wheels on the bottom of their shoes so they could roll around instead of walking? Well, I was this past Friday night after I had laced up my skates and quickly realized what a bad idea this whole thing had been. Roller skating?! The last time I can remember even being in a rink was back in jr. high... and that's stretching it. I suggested it to my sisters, who of course are always up for a new adventure with their little ones, and we headed to Skatetown USA (located in West Chester, OH). What memories flooded back... the little table/benches that you roll/fall to when putting on or taking off your skates. The lockers to store your valuables and the bathrooms designed to allow you to just skate right on it. The rink did not let us down... it even came equipped with a disco ball and fun dance music. Missy, her four-year old son Kam, Tricia & Ross, along with their girls Marisa (1 year old) and Sofia (2 1/2 years old), Missy's friend Joe and I all embarked on an adventure I'm sure will leave smiles of our faces for the entire 2011. Holding a one-year old baby while on roller skates in the middle of the rink and realizes how crazy the kids around you are skating must be the most terrifying thing I've done this year. With obvious reason I opted to snuggle Marisa on the sidelines and take on the role of "watcher of anything not skating" - this of course included children, sweaters (I forgot how hot skating can be!) and any other accessories that were not ready or needed on the floor. We had a blast and I definitely recommended it for all my 30-something friends. It's a fun way to spend a weekend night (go during family skate - you'll avoid the hipsters) and turns out to be an incredible workout.
