Home of Bush's Baked Beans

By 4:36 PM

I had the great fortune to be invited for a tour of the Bush Brothers new General Store, Visitor Center, Museum and Cafe during my recent trip to TN.  What a wonderful way to spend a morning.  This is one amazing company who not only has figured out the "making money" side of things, but also how to motivate and care for their employees.   For anyone heading to the Smoky Mountains/Knoxville area I highly recommend scheduling in a few hours to visit this local historical gem.  First off, the museum has a plethora of information not only on the history of the company and its various methods of giving back to both the community and Mother Earth, but also on the "bean", canning process and various things ranging over the past 100 years.  It truly is impressive and I might add very interactive.  Rarely do you see a museum that interests both the adults and kids... but they have done a terrific job incorporating enough to grab the attention of the most ADD visitor.

Moving from the museum, we were able to check out the general store which is such a delight to wander through.  Be sure to bring your checkbooks... there is some of the most clever items in this store. I scored some great Christmas presents for my nieces and nephews along with a few good friends.
Next we got a real treat and had the opportunity to tour the Bush Family Home that has been restored just across the street.  The history behind this building is simply fascinating and the building has been beautifully refurbished to reflect the memories that come along with it, but also in a way to embrace current and future guests.
Finally we made out way to the Cafe where we were grabbed a nice lunch.  The Cafe is open to guests visiting the Center along with general public.  Their menu was unique (of course including lots of "baked beans" dishes) but very well priced and absolutely delicious!
Overall it was a delightful trip.  I highly recommend it to anyone living near or visiting the area.  Check out their website to get information or driving directions: www.bushbeans.com
