The Black Olive

By 1:55 PM

The Black Olive is located off Pine Street near Orange Ave. I've seen it but haven't heard anything at all about it. So today for lunch with my boss I dragged him to try something "new" instead of our usual lunch at Ember. The host, when I asked where his green was for St. Patty's Day, whispered in a heavy Italian accent "don't worry - I'm wearing green. I have on green underwear." Oddly it was not in a creepy way and just made me laugh. The place has a sophisticated atmosphere and almost seems too luxurious for a casual lunch meeting, but it wasn't. The menu offers a range of dishes that are simple but tasty and delightful in their presentation. We both ordered the Mediterranean Salad (mine with salmon and his with chicken) and then added a side of fries (complete inside thing with us)... the food was delivered quickly and was delicious (though the salmon was on the raw side). The fries on the other hand were basically fried slivers of fried stuff... not really shoe-string fries.. just strips of fried. Oh well.. shouldn't have been eating them anyway. Overall, great place with terrific food and service. I'll definitely go back for dinner and a glass of wine sometime. Their wine list if incredible but today wasn't the day to test those waters.
