Camp Kern: Rappelling & The Mine Shaft

By 10:51 AM

Located on 485 beautiful acres, Camp Kern is owned and operated by the Dayton, Ohio YMCA.  My amazing sister Missy works for the Lebanon branch of the YMCA so she was able to pull a few strings allowing us to have an afternoon adventure during my last trip to Lebanon.  "What do you want to do?" she asked... well, Ropes Courses and Zip Lines are my life right now so pass on those.  Rappelling was new... so that's what we went with.  Turns out to be pretty basic.  I guess once you jump out of a plane, there's not too many activities that make those butterflies visit your tummy.  Rappelling was fun, but goodness my legs are still dealing with the bruises that it left due to my very clumsy coordination.  Afterwards we went down to the Mine Shaft.  Now that was fun... Basically you are hurled down a black plastic tube on a sled with elbow pads a helmet and think gloves.  You are shot out the end of the tube into hay and dirt.  Sounds basic, and it is, but it was fun!  Poor Kam is always too little for our adventures (and bless his heart he is always up for them!), so thankfully there was a "kiddie-sized" Mine Shaft that he was able to experience.  Overall a fabulous afternoon thanks to my amazing sis Missy!
The Mine Shaft - Man you shoot outta those things fast!
Ha ha ha... so much fun! Missy and I couldn't stop laughing.
Kameron as he was about to go back up the kiddie Mine Shaft... he loved it too!
