Florida's Juneteenth Music Festival
I love living on Lake Eola... you never know what might be happening around here! Today was a busy day for Lake Eola... with the Florida Juneteenth Music Festival taking place near the Disney Ampitheatre and The World Winery Tour on the opposite end near Panera Bread. I took a stroll to check out the Juneteenth Music Fest... what a cultural event! It was a celebration of music, arts and culture. There is history behind this event of course... the celebration of this event intended to introduce students, visitors and residents of the Central Florida area to the jazz, blues and gospel music that was performed at the South Street Casino and the Wells’ Built Hotel from the 1930s through the 1960s. Some amazing artists played there in the past such as Louis Armstrong, Billie Holiday, B. B. King and Ray Charles. Not only did they entertained audiences in Orange County at the South Street Casino and after performances, checked into the Wells’ Built Hotel. Gotta love an afternoon of great music... it brought back familiar memories of many little dives in New Orleans.
