Jacksonville Maritime Museum

By 9:48 AM

Set sail into the maritime history of Jacksonville while exploring an extensive collection of artifacts from the earliest French to current time.  This museum is located on the south end of Jacksonville, next to the Friendship Fountain.  The Jacksonville Maritime Museum Society is a non-profit, educational association and collects books, documents, artifacts, and other historical objects significant to General Maritime History of Jacksonville and Florida's First Coast; preserves their historical value; and interprets their meaning to the public by means of museum displays, educational programs, lectures and publications (this taken from their website).

On a handful of business trips through Jacksonville I’ve seen the museum but it has either been closed or I didn’t have the spare time to pop in for a short visit… but this seemed like the ideal time to be a first-time visitor so I made the time.  With my Paw Paw currently fighting cancer, I saw it as sort of an honor to him and the time he served in his Naval career.  Lots of great history.  Fun hour of your time.  Check them out: www.jaxmaritimemuseum.org
