Frog Statue "Monsieur Jacques"
Created for display in August 2006, Monsieur Jacques (a VERY large frog statue) was left "unpainted" or "skinless" for various reasons. In this form, unity (of humanity) is represented by showing that underneath the colors of our flesh, we are all the same. Rayne is known as the "frog capital" these days, but it all started when a trio of Parisians, Jacques Weill and his brothers, began a profitable export business, shipping the hoppy residents to restaurants across the country. The large frog statue sits next to the local police station immediately off the I-10 exit for Rayne... and is listed in "Roadside America" as a "must-see" roadside attraction. After way too many years driving past this exit, I'm glad I made time to check it out this past week.
