Don's Seafood Hut
The original Don’s restaurant opened in 1934 in Lafayette, Louisiana. Since that time, many other seafood restaurants have been developed and operated by this pioneering group of four brothers: Don, Ashby, Willie and Roland, and their sister, Lily. As much as my family has frequented this seafood establishment, I had never tried it before last night. My sister Melissa and I met my mom and her husband for dinner at Don's where we enjoyed a good old fashioned "fry-down" of everything out of the sea (with the exception of moi - who stuck with grilled flounder). I was very disappointed they didn't have raw oysters, but completely understand that they certainly can't control this oil spill mess... but still. A visit to LA without raw oysters seems equivalent to Mardi Gras without beads and booze. We also had a rather large visitor come to our table... but Ron quickly took care of him. Goodness I dislike palmetto roaches! Minus the roach, I also lost my bluetooth during dinner (assuming it fell out of my purse)... and not one employee seems to know what a bluetooth is.. so oh well. Maybe it's my donation for this trip to someone less fortunate (and possibly knowledgeable). Check them out: www.donsseafoodhutlafayette.com
