Largest Indoor Swimming Pool - The Lightner Museum
Swimming Pool, Alcazar Hotel, 1907.
At the time the pool was the reputedly the world's largest indoor pool. Today it is used as an antique mall.
Several friends have turned me on to random eclectic "finds" throughout the US and this was no different. While in St. Augustine on a business trip I snuck a visit to the Lightner Museum to see the former "largest indoor swimming pool". The Alcazar Hotel was built in the early 1900's and is said to be inspired by the royal palace in Seville, Spain. It boasted two large towers, spires, and red tile roof. Inside guests could indulge in a steam room, Turkish baths and, what was at the time, the world’s largest indoor swimming pool. THAT'S the treasure I visited. It's fascinating to walk through this now remodeled antique mall. Below is what this looks like today... it was VERY COOL. Shout out to my adventurous friend who turned me on to this hidden find.
This is what it looks like today... restaurant and several antique shops along the edges
