Children's Mass - Christmas Eve
For the past fourteen years I've attended a non-denominational church. My relationship with God has strengthened since making this choice, and I feel it's the right place for me. However, I grew up Catholic and to this day I find myself easily responding without looking at the hymnal when in a Catholic mass. Guess it was just ingrained in me during childhood This past Christmas Eve, my Aunt and I attended the Christmas Eve pass with my grandmother. My family always went to Christmas Day mass, never Christmas Eve (which I guess makes sense with small children and the whole Santa Claus thing). This particular mass was called the "Children's Mass" - what a fun new experience. Children took the lead on all roles you would normally find adults - the Readers, the Choir, even the helpers to Father Matthew (the priest). And I must say they did a spectacular job. After the service was complete, Father Matthew encouraged everyone to take a seat for the show that the 8th grade class had prepared. Cue the music... and next thing I knew there were angels, and dancing, beautiful singing, Mary, Joseph and Baby Jesus (who was a real baby I might add).... the entire production was so beautiful. What a special reminder of the real meaning of Christmas. I'm so glad I went with Maw Maw... it was a beautiful way to welcome in such a special day of the year.
