"The Big House"
Orlando Fire Department's newest firehouse and headquarters, Station 1 "The Big House”, is located directly across from my downtown Orlando office. The new station opened back in December 2009, and each day I drive by without much thought except that the noise is excessive and I just KNOW that one day I will be running late to get somewhere and I will hear the sirens and see those doors open and bam! I’ll be stuck waiting as the trucks parade out and on to bigger and more important issues… anyway, I digress. Today I was on “Aunt Kee Kee” duty with my favorite little Orlando man, Gavin, while his mommy was busy giving birth to his little brother… so.. I figured why not check out the new fire station?! After having a business lunch, to which Gavin accompanied me like the perfect gentleman that he is, we walked next door and asked Fireman Willie if we could get a tour of the new firehouse. What a beautiful building! Lots of history in addition to new cool toys and shiny trucks. We learned a lot and had a fun time getting to see inside the life of some of our Orlando heroes. You can see some of the history at: http://www.cityoforlando.net/fire/History%20of%20OFD.htm

So the fireman poles do exist.. and the set-up is wild here.
