Founding Farmers: true food & drink
Located just three blocks West of the White House, Founding Farmers is a very cool farmhouse with old wood, comfortable seating and beautiful community farm tables where family and friends can gather and enjoy a great meal. We stumbled upon this treasure after our walking tour of several DC monuments and memorials and I was thrilled to find something healthy and “green”. They pride themselves on “homemade” and “scratch-made” fresh food.. from the farmhouse to the dinner table. Concept = 5 stars. Delivery = 2 stars. We were disappointed with the quality of our meal in addition to the overall wait staff service. A quick lunch turned into a two hour experience. Focused on trying something new we ordered oysters on the half-shell (a favorite of mine) and the “combo Devil-ish eggs” (deviled eggs with Maine Lobster, Gulf Crab and Salmon). The oysters were very bad (I’ll save you from how I eloquently described them to the restaurant manager) and the eggs were interesting to say the least (though I enjoyed trying them). Missy and Leslie stuck with a safe chicken salad, and while I thought my order was “safe” as well, my rotisserie chicken was served with the feet still on the bird. THAT was interesting. Maybe they were having an off day.. maybe not. The guest recovery was acceptable but not over the top. Working in restaurants may create a higher level of expectations for me, but at the end of the day I wasn’t terribly impressed. If you want to check them out: http://www.wearefoundingfarmers.com/

My chicken... talk about fresh! It still has its feet!
Unique decor inside.. lights that are birds and animals (that you are eating) scattered around
